Señora Rocio Packard
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Señora Rocio Packard and I will be teaching Elementary Spanish 2018-2019.
With a passion for introducing children to the Spanish world, I am offering a dynamic and engaging program that will not only teach your child the Spanish language but also will allow him/her to experience the richness and beauty of its culture.
I am a homeschool mother of 4 children who loves Jesus and loves teaching Spanish. Born and raised in Colombia, S.A. I graduated with a Bachelors degree on Medical Laboratory Science. After working 9 years as a Medical Technologist, I worked 2 years at the Gagie School, in Kalamazoo- teaching Spanish to all levels from Preschool to 8th grade. I have homeschooled my children for the last 15 years and I have been teaching Spanish to the homeschool community for the last 6 years. I am so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the
KAT family again this year where I am offering 2 Elementary classes, level I and level II. It is my prayer and my heart’s desire to introduce your children to the Spanish culture believing that someday they will be the blessed feet
that will bring the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the lost, because it is very clear to me that JESUS is our greatest gift in this life!!
Your children will develop Spanish language skills through singing, dancing, story telling, role play, books, musical instruments, puppets, and games. Two very important elements that make up my class are repetition and participation. Your children will be asked to repeat after me, participate and answer questions in the target language. I encourage excellent pronunciation and conversational skills which will allow the students to
build language fluency. When you are learning a second language, repetition is vital for the long-term internalization of the vocabulary, especially in younger children.
I have incorporated a very successful method called TPR- Total Physical Response that is based on the coordination of language and physical movement. The students will master the new language by connecting words with
actions, through role play, short movies, books and songs.
We will also learn about Spanish Speaking Countries, their location, fun and interesting facts. Your children will be asked to participate by putting together presentations about their assigned country.
Elementary Spanish Level I:
These are some of the topics we will be covering:
Greetings, the alphabet, colors, numbers, expressions, days of the week, months of the year, weather, family, the body, clothing, food, animals, house, commands, and community terms. Regarding grammar, we will go over the different parts of speech, adjectives, verb conjugations, prepositions, and the fundamental structure of Spanish sentences. These vocabulary and grammar concepts will be introduced and reinforced throughout the year.
Elementary Spanish Level II:
We will review and build up on the foundation from the previous level learning new concepts related to science, geography, and important historical figures.
Which Class Should Your Child Take?
These classes will not be divided by age or grade, but according to the cognitive maturity of your child. One of the reasons I homeschool my children is because I strongly believe each child is an individual with special gifts, talents and interests. So it is up to us as parents to encourage, discover and appreciate what makes them unique. I believe that having two levels will allow you to choose the class that will be the best fit for your child, as he/she learns at her own pace. Numerous studies have shown the correlation between the child’s mind learning a second language and their development of their cognitive thought process, increased linguistic awareness and improved ability to hypothesize in science, and higher academic achievement on standardized test scores. Introducing a foreign
language to children at an early age, can help them become well adjusted communicators.
Give your children a gift for life give them a Second Language!
